Request for Proposal: Developing knowledge and management of strawberry red leaf disorder
Hort Innovation is a not-for-profit, grower-owned Research and Development Corporation (RDC) for Australia’s $13.2 billion horticulture industry. Hort Innovation invests around $110 million in research and development (R&D) and marketing programs annually to provide benefit to industry and the wider community.
Hort Innovation is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced and capable delivery partner for the project: Developing knowledge and management of strawberry red leaf disorder (BS19001).
The objective of the services being sought is to develop better knowledge of the causes of red leaf syndrome in strawberry and both short-term and long-term management practices for growers.
To do this, the secondary objectives are to:
• Identify candidate pests and pathogens causing “strawberry red leaf disorder”
• Identify potential microbial biopesticides effective against the causing agent(s)
• Collaborate with the diverse red leaf disorder research group at QDAF and draw on their laboratory and on farm surveys data (including samples)
• Engage a PhD student whose study focus is informed by key findings and aimed at addressing the longer-term red leaf disorder management goals
• Communicate findings in a clear and practical format to growers and wider industry.
