Request for Proposal: The role of urban greening in social recovery and mental health
Horticulture Innovation Australia (Hort Innovation) is a not-for-profit, grower-owned Research and Development Corporation (RDC) for Australia’s $15.1 billion horticulture industry. Hort Innovation invests around $120 million in research and development (R&D) and marketing programs annually to provide benefit to industry and the wider community.
Hort Innovation is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced, and capable delivery partner/s to express interest in projects related to: The role of urban greening in social recovery and mental health (GC22004).
This project/s would entail quantification of the mental and social benefits of urban green spaces and increased green space in improvement of social and mental health and wellbeing. Ideally would target providing evidence-based backing to increasing green space provision in mental health settings for adoption of policies by councils, organisations or governments. Ultimately driving greater demand (which includes for edibles where edibles are the plants of choice) for horticultural products, particularly but not limited to turf and nursery.
This program may include:
• an investigation into the existing theory on this topic and a review of the barriers to adoption of green spaces in mental health care settings such as social and community services, mental health in- and outpatient settings, hospital, aged care, and private and public mental health settings
• developing a base of evidence to drive increased adoption of green spaces, and program of work to demonstrate the social wellbeing and mental health benefits of green spaces in health and social recovery
• develop further research recommendations, policy recommendations and supporting documentation.
An idea submission may respond to one or more of the above points, or present ideas related to this work but not listed here and be transformational, new research, including new data and insights. Following evaluation of the submission a program or related projects will be established.
