The Maritime Technology Cooperation Centre in the Pacific (MTCC-Pacific) is one the five centres that form the Global MTCC Network (GMN), a project aiming at building the capacity of developing countries for climate mitigation in the maritime shipping industry. This project is funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). MTCC-Pacific is hosted by SPC in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP).
Within the framework of the MTCC-Pacific is to conduct pilot project on uptake of low carbon technology aimed at reducing maritime green house gas (GHG) emission. Renewable energy, in particular solar energy have gained lot of attention on shore based power generation in Fiji. Photovoltaic (PV) system with LED lightening have been planned for the MTCC-Pacific pilot project.
The scope of work shall include a detailed design, material procurement, supervision and management of installation, maintenance plan/schedule and completion work of the hybrid / PV systems will be realized by the bidder. A short summary of the expected tasks comprises:
Request and gather the information needed to design the PV system considering the conditions of the site selected.
1) Develop an inception report of methodology and work to install PV systems or
a hydrid system on the selected vessel.
2) Estimate the monthly and yearly energy produced by the system(s) designed.
3) Supply all the required equipment in accordance with the system(s) designed
such as:
1.1 Solar panelsAny type of panel that meets all maritime industry criteria
and standards.
2.1 Vertical wind turbines: Any type of wind turbine that meets maritime
industry criteria and standards or certified by a recognized classification
society. Should also consider to implement a retractable or foldable turbine
3.1 Associated equipment'sIncluding inverters, battery systems, cabling, data
loggers, meters, mounting hardware, maintenance and access equipment and
any other equipment required along with the panels to provide an operational
solar power system
4) Coordinate and supervise the pre-constructing preparation, construction,
completion, handover and after-care of the Pilot Project's system(s) on the
selected vessel.
5) Conduct commissioning testing and operation training.
6) Operation and Maintenance (preventive and corrective) during the system(s)
first 5 years of operation.
