On October 2018, Chief Executive Officer of Pacific Technical and Further Education at the University of the South Pacific (USP), together with the Pacific Community (SPC), submitted a proposal to the USP Academic Programmes Committee for a new training programme, the Certificate IV in Coastal Fisheries and Aquaculture Compliance, for Senate approval (see Appendix 1, Paper APC 4/18). The programme was subsequently approved by the Senate.
Since its launch, between 2019 and 2023, eight cohorts have successfully completed the course. However, it is now timely for the Certificate IV in Coastal Fisheries and Aquaculture Compliance to undergo a major review to ensure it continues to meet the current fisheries compliance needs of Pacific Island members.
