Background:
The Tara Lagoon is situated in the Western Downs community of Tara. It is the main water source of the town and is a popular stop for caravanners and visitors to the region.
The Tara Lagoon Masterplan that is currently underway has been designed as the first step in improving the recreation outcomes of the lagoon for residents and visitors/tourists. A 1.2km waterway is the focal point, however, native flora and fauna abound to make this area highly attractive. The site provides vast opportunities for the park to be developed for a variety of uses, and become a recreational & environmental hub for picnicking, children’s play, exercise, education, camping, habitat and environmental education and wetlands development, and a community and visitor space for people to enjoy various pursuits.
One major drawcard is a footpath and over-water boardwalk that circumnavigates the entire Lagoon. However, due to flooding, the footpath at the eastern end of the Lagoon is constantly being washed away. Council have engaged a consultant to design a permanent solution.
