Background:
The Chinchilla Cultural facilities were originally constructed in 1963 providing the community with a memorial hall for civic events. A redevelopment in 1999 saw the construction of the Chinchilla Cinema. The Lapunyah Art Gallery stands as a separate building within the precinct but is closely tied together through common location and architectural design.
The location of the cultural precinct is not visually connected to the community and has no street appeal by design, is unable to draw the attention of vehicular or pedestrian traffic and is not recognised as a place to gather.
The Chinchilla cultural precinct demands a broad landscape solution that connects all activities and makes legible how one navigates through the site, taking advantage of the opportunity to establish a beautiful framed external courtyard which itself becomes and outdoor room for the community.
