Background:
The Chinchilla and Miles Aquatic Centre outdoor pools have both been identified as requiring resurfacing. The Chinchilla Aquatic Centre previously known as the Chinchilla War Memorial Swimming Pool opened on the 13th of October 1962. The last resurfacing on both the Chinchilla pools was in approx. 2009. The Chinchilla 50m pool when resurfaced last was fiberglass over fiberglass so the bottom layer of fiberglass could potentially be 30+ years old. The Miles Aquatic Centre previously known as the Miles and District War Memorial Olympic Swimming Pool opened on the 4th of March 1967. The last resurfacing on both the Miles pools was in approx. 2009. In approx. 2013 both Chinchilla and Miles 50m pools were installed with a recessed metal channel in the centre of the pools. In the Miles 50m pool there is also knowledge of a hidden expansion joint identified by previous contractors.
