CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
BACKGROUND:
Western Downs Regional Council (WDRC) intends to carry out the replacement of Charleys Bridge which is currently a five span single lane timber bridge with a new two lane concrete structure including improved flood immunity as part of the Councils 2016/2017 capital works program.
WDRC engaged Instrada to carry out Level 2 & 3 Bridge Inspections on this structure in the 2015/2016 financial year. This inspection found severe defects resulting in closure of the existing structure for a short period of time before extra measures could be installed. During this closure period a side track was installed. A copy of the Level 2/3 Inspection Reports are provided in Part 8.
WDRC intends to replace the existing timber structure with a new 50.200m long x 8.8m wide concrete bridge consisting of prestressed deck units, concrete piers, piles and guard rail for safety.
