Local Heritage Assistance Fund
A Local Heritage Assistance Fund has been established by Glen Innes Severn Council with the aid of a grant from the NSW Heritage Office. Owners of heritage properties are now invited to apply for funding under the Heritage Assistance Fund. Eligible projects are those which involve the repair, maintenance or reinstatement of missing items on heritage buildings. These include fences, verandahs, roof cladding and decorative detail, structural work through to final painting of projects.
Owners of buildings in the CBD are particularly invited to apply as priority will be given to these properties.
Examples of the type of work which can be funded under this program include:
• Stabilisation of buildings,
• Painting in approved colour schemes,
• Repairs to stumps, walls, roofs, doors and windows,
• Replacement of guttering and down pipes and
• Reinstating missing components, including verandahs, fences, roof cladding and decorative detail.
The aim is to maintain, preserve or restore elements which contribute to the item’s heritage value.
The funding cannot be used for improvements such as new kitchens or bathrooms. Council’s Heritage Advisor will be available to assist with colour schemes and provide free advice on proposed work.
A limit of $2,000 per grant, to match a similar contribution from the owner, is the guideline. However, this may vary depending on the number of applications received. Council will consider applications where the owner’s contribution is in the form of labour and/or materials rather than cash.
Please note that grants are not made in respect of properties on which rates are unpaid, for works already undertaken or retrospectively.
