FT 2025/26-504002-C - Weed and Vegetation Management at Council's Active and Dormant Waste Management Facilities
Council requires a contractor to continue developing and implementing sustainable solutions to ecosystem management of the operational and adjoining natural areas at Katoomba, Blaxland, Lawson and Blackheath Waste Management Facilities (WMF). The contractor is required to develop work programs and to undertake works in accordance with the Vegetation Management Plan (VMP) for each site. The contractor will be required to update the existing VMPs for Katoomba, Blaxland and Lawson, and to prepare a new VMP for Blackheath.
The main goal of the contracted service is to support and restore the native ecosystems in and around each WMF. The major threats to these systems are disturbed hydrological regimes, eutrophication, contamination, loss of structural, and functional components and invasive species. Restoration and management activities will include (but are not necessarily limited to):
• the phased removal of invasive plants
• revegetation
• the construction of small-scale structures to support and mimic natural ecosystem functions
• drainage works
• stream bed and bank stabilisation
• habitat creation
• ecological monitoring.
This procurement will ensure that Council continues to fulfil its role in achieving this objective and strategy, namely to:
• Manage and protect Council-managed bushland areas; and
• Manage and protect waterways.
