2025-2026 Local Heritage Fund
Applications are now open for the Gilgandra Shire Local Heritage Fund.
Council invites eligible residents/organisations to apply for a grant from our Local Heritage Fund to assist with the conservation and restoration work for a heritage item listed in the Gilgandra LEP 2011 or located within the “heritage conservation area”, including parts of Miller, Bridge, and Morris Streets.
The aim of this fund is to maintain, preserve or restore elements that contribute to the building’s heritage value. This can be maintenance, repairs, or restoration to ensure the longevity of the building/site and but up to a limit of $5,000 provided by Council (to match dollar for dollar contribution from the owner) per project.
Items of heritage significance include buildings/structures/sites identified as contributing to the character of the Gilgandra Heritage Conservation Area (if needed, please seek clarification of the location of the Heritage Conservation Area from Council) and items included on the Gilgandra Community Based Heritage Study.
Funding priorities
If your project is for a heritage item or buildings with the heritage conservation zone (building/structure/site), the funding priorities are:
- Projects that enhance the presentation of the upper façade, parapet walls of buildings within the heritage conservation area.
- Projects that assist with improving compliance with Building Code of Australia (BCA), disability access & fire regulations.
- Projects that ensure the safety of awnings, verandahs and balconies.
- Projects that retain the unique aesthetic qualities of a local heritage building or site of significance.
- Tells a story about the history of Gilgandra through architecture/design or historical use.
If your project is for urgent maintenance works, (for example, to manage severe deterioration to the structural integrity of the building/structure), the funding priorities are:
- Projects that stabilise significant aspects of the building/structure.
- Works that ensure the ongoing integrity of significant structures, including repair of roofs & guttering, improvement of drainage, repair of termite damage, repair or replacement of failed building elements (re-stumping, new floors, verandahs, etc).
If your project is for the preparation or update to conservation management plans and heritage management plan
- The plan shall assist in future conservation of the heritage item
- The plan includes achievable actions for the maintenance and conservation of the item
- The plan is prepared by a suitably qualified person.
