EOI for Vacant Building at Transfer Station
Expressions of interest (EOIs) will be invited for the operation of a recycling, reuse, landfill or associated service at the Atherton Transfer Station after a decision made at today’s Ordinary Council Meeting.
‘The building was previously leased by the Endeavour Foundation for their Recycle Market,’ said Mayor Rod Marti.
‘This was a fantastic service but, despite strong community support, the costs significantly outweighed the revenue and the facility closed down earlier this year.
‘We’ll be inviting third parties to express their interest to operate a recycling business from the now-vacant building, and allow Council to select the most beneficial proposals before calling for tenders.
‘The business could include recycling of lead or lithium batteries, high-value metals from white goods and appliances, metals from mattresses, components from IT and electronic devices, gas bottles, timber or waste oils.
‘Or the business or organisation might reinstate recycling and reselling as per the building’s previous use.
‘The EOI will require applicants to demonstrate benefits to the community either by directly supporting the community, or indirectly by diverting landfill or paying dividends to Tableland Regional Council,’ Mayor Marti said.
Expressions of interest will be invited in the coming weeks.
