TEN16517. Design & Construct of Suspended Slab on Precast Driven Piles at Lakes Creek Rd.
Rockhampton Regional Council (Council) is in the process of designing and tendering for the installation of a fire protection system upgrade to the existing Waste Transfer Station (WTS) building at the Lakes Creek Road Waste Management Facility (LCRWMF).
The fire protection system upgrade will include the installation of a fire sprinkler and delude system throughout various sections of the WTS building. A fire water tank with a nominal capacity of 409kL, with dimensions of some 10.5m dia. x 5.3m in height will be required for the fire protection system upgrade.
The WTS building and the surrounding area are located over historic landfill operations, with an approximate depth of waste of some 7 metres.
Due to the tolerance limits for the fire water tank, Council requires the slab for the fire water tank to be supported by piles in order to achieve minimum load requirements. Given the site conditions, precast driven piles are considered to be the most appropriate method of piling.
