The City of Albany is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from professional artists with a connection to the Great Southern region for a new public artwork at the Orana Information Bay.

Albany artists invited to create first Percent for Art landmark
Albany artists are invited to submit expressions of interest for the first public artwork to be commissioned under the City of Albany’s Local Planning Policy 1.10 - Percent for Art.
The $100,000 project will create a new entrance statement at the Albany Highway Information Bay in Orana, welcoming visitors as they arrive in the city.
This is the first time funds collected through the policy have been used to commission a public artwork. The policy requires developments valued at $1.5 million or more to contribute up to one per cent of their total project cost toward public artwork that reflects or enhances Albany’s cultural identity.
City of Albany Manager Arts & Culture Paul Nielsen said the project marks an important milestone for the local creative community and the City’s commitment to public art.
“This is the first time Percent for Art contributions have come together to fund a major artwork for Albany,” he said.
“The policy ensures that growth and development also invest in culture and connection. This first commission will support a local artist to create a striking artwork that is also an entrance statement for visitors.”
Professional artists living in the Great Southern region, or with a strong connection to Albany, are encouraged to apply individually or as part of a team. Collaborations that support the development of emerging or First Nations artists are encouraged.
The information bay is located on the east side of Albany Highway between Coogee Street and Anson Road in Orana. The site includes a large grassed area suitable for the artwork and a covered bay providing visitor maps and information.
